For millions of small business owners across the country, the fact that the economy is finally moving in the right direction after years of stops and starts is welcome news. Now, many entrepreneurs are feeling much more confident about their firms’ chances for success down the road, largely as a result of the positive signs seen in their bottom lines over the last few months in particular.
Over the past few months, many small companies have seen far more business come through their doors after the harsh winter weather that plagued many in January and February, and as such are feeling somewhat better about their chances for success after having a rather dour outlook previously, according to a report from the Greenville News. These latest numbers might be proof positive that a more significant recovery is in the offing, particularly because the numbers seen in the first two months of the year typically resembled those seen during and following the recession.
“We do see an uptick in activity in the economy,” Richard Hagins, chief executive and president of US&S, a Greenville-based firm providing facility maintenance and support service for governmental, commercial and industrial markets, told the newspaper. “Thank goodness that we see that. [Owners] are spending money where they were hunkering down.”
Still a long way to go
Of course, when these issues arise, some experts are quick to point out that while optimism among small business owners is certainly on the upswing overall, it nonetheless lags behind the levels seen prior to the recession overall, and considerably so, the report said. As such, there may still need to be a longer time frame of more significant recovery before many more skeptical owners can be convinced that the positive conditions seen in the market today are here to stay. Some analysts believe that only after a prolonged period of growing sales numbers will many owners begin to believe that it could be time to hire more workers once again.
Owners who want to position their companies for as much success as possible might also want to consider the ways in which they can reduce their ongoing expenses to streamline their budgets. This could include shopping around for more affordable small business insurance, including policies for liability insurance, as a means of saving what could add up to thousands of dollars per year.
